The competition took place at Three Rivers Golf Club Jubilee Course on 27th July when members and friends enjoyed a not-too-serious day of golf for the Paul Wellman Trophy. The trophy is presented annually in memory of one of our past members

Jackie Wellman and Bob Taylor from the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill were on the road again in one of Rotarian Steve Gale’s vans on the 5th of May collecting yet more unused, unwanted bicycles from the Rayleigh, Hockley, and Southend areas.

Little did Jackie Wellman think that when she started collecting unwanted and unused bikes on behalf of the Re~Cycle charity back in 2020, she would be well on her way to collecting 1000 bicycles.

Since 1979 when a Rotarian, with the backing of Rotary International, started a multi-year project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines, Rotarians all over the world have been involved in the End Polio Now campaign to totally eliminate polio.

Since former President, Jackie Wellman’s, initial bicycle collection staged just after total lock-down eased on 2nd June when she and Rtn. Sertac Yilmaz collected 40 bikes and 42 on the following day, the project has gone from strength to strength.
