Details of our International work

International Team  2025/2026

Main aims for 2025/26:

  1. To continue to promote our International activities, by supporting a few major causes/projects but also having Tuesday morning international fun activities.
  2. Working with Foundation Officer Hugh Milward, to ensure that as a Club we maintain our $100 per member donation to the Rotary Foundation.
  3. Working with Foundation Officer Hugh Milward, to donate a minimum of $500 to End Polio Now.
  4. To replenish the clubs International Emergencies Fund, so that we can react quickly to any global disaster and support Rotary aid or other well-known charities (e.g. ShelterBox, Aquabox etc).
  5. To make sure we get press, Rotary and social media coverage.
  6. To have fun!

Projects proposed:

  1. End Polio Now.
    1. World End Polio day is Thursday 24th October 2025. Look at alternative ways of fund raising (rather than Market Street collections). Consider Tesco again, possibly the new Lidl.
    2. Around that date, work with EnvVoc to promote End Polio now in the Peace Garden.
    3. Around that date, arrange for purple illumination of the Loudon Memorial.

  1. Bombolulu School, Mombasa, Kenya.

Continue to support Bombolulu School. Following the success of the blankets project, keep an eye on their requirements and consider further non-financial support (for example, knitting materials to make them self-sufficient).

  1. Bikes to Africa.

Again, following the success of the Re-Cycle project, provide an outlet for any unwanted but serviceable bikes but on a smaller scale than 2024/25).

  1. Mary’s Meals.

Continue to support Mary’s Meals via low-key collecting.

  1. E-Ranger (motor-cycle ambulance).

Consider supporting the annual maintenance costs again - £2k pa.

  1. Toilet Twinning.

Kenny Ashton agreed to do a Toilet Twinning based event at one of the Tuesday night meetings. This to include a raffle to raise funds to twin President Julie’s toilet.

  1. New Futures Nepal.

A charity discussed at District Assembly – which has “successfully supported and enabled disadvantaged children in Nepal to thrive and be happy.

With your help, we can continue to give hope and opportunity to all those who face acute hardships as they learn to live fulfilling lives”.

Tuesday Meeting Activities:

International related quiz and fun.

Kenny’s toilet night

Look at potential International related guest speakers (e.g. New Futures Nepal).

Soccer World Cup quiz and sweep.

Others as we think of them.

Cycling:

Steve Weston is happy to carry on promoting our cycling activities. Possibly a challenge / fund raising element.

Social Events:

Kenny Ashton offered to host a social with food and a raffle at his house, probably to support one of the charities above.
