Rotary District 1070 in the East Midlands have been pleased to host eight cultural students over a period of ten days and Ashby Castle Rotary Club were delighted to show the students some of the sights of their local area and to help them donate £1500 to charity! On Sunday, the visitors from Taiwan, Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey and Romania met with Rotarians from Ashby Castle Rotary Club for a relaxing day in the local area amidst their busy programme.

Having been collected from their hotel in Leicester, the students were taken to Staunton Harold Sailability. A Charity that Ashby Castle Rotary have been supporters of for a number of years and who do great work providing sailing and waterborne activities for disabled children and young adults. The students learned about the support given by the Rotary Club to Staunton Harold Sailability, finding out what they do and were also present as the Rotary Club continued it’s support for the charity by presenting a cheque for £1500.

There was the opportunity to spend the morning sailing or out in the safety boat enjoying the perfect conditions. Sailability is a charity that enables disabled children and adults the freedom to enjoy a sport on a one-to-one basis and it is this experience that our students undertook, although their leaders soon had them manning the sails.

The group were then taken into Melbourne for a picnic lunch provided by the Deli in town before spending some free time exploring exploring the area, including the lake, courtyard and tearooms before returning to their hotel. This left them just enough time for a wash, change of clothes and then on to an Indian Restaurant for dinner.
