Four years on from completion of a significant project to reduce Malaria in The Gambia thanks to the Rotary Club of Milton Keynes Grand Union (MKGU).

The Canal, which was introduced to reduce malaria in the area, was almost complete before the rains came in July 2019 but sufficiently finished to take the water away from the village. the work was then completed in 2020. Bakau Medical Centre reported that the incidents of malaria had dropped by 74% in the second half of 2019 compared with the second half of 2018. An overwhelming result which has continued year on year.

Since the initial installation, the canal has been maintained by the town council who have ensured the canal is cleared as demonstrated in these photos from 2024.

In early August, MKGU Rotary President Neil Beeton and member David Hatherall visited Action4Youth boatyard to present a cheque for £1616 , the proceeds of President Val's Quiz Night.

MKGU Grand Union Rotary Club supported the MK Marathon and half-Marathon on Monday 5th May 2025 with a water station at Mile 18.

We have undertaken a number of charity activities across Milton Keynes in 2024.
