With a growing world population and far too much of the world’s available land being used for intensive rearing of animals, there is growing interest among people of all ages in eating less meat. On a Monday in early November, members of the Woolsack Club’s environment team met with Shirley and David Faraday, the leaders of the environmental charity, What Next,  to talk about and sample a Planetarian meal at a local restaurant.

A Planetarian diet is one which provides all the energy and nutrients that humans need and can be supplied in a globally sustainable way to feed up to 10 bn people - the forecast world population by 2055. We had a very lively set of discussions among the 11 people attending, helped by a useful handout on carbon footprints and diet, compiled by David (click here for details). We also sampled some delicious food at The Wharf restaurant in Godalming High Street.
