On the afternoon of 24th August 2022, Rotary clubs from Godalming, Guildford, Cranleigh and Haslemere came together to organise a very enjoyable picnic to help our Ukrainian guests celebrate their Independence Day as best they could, despite being far from home. The event was a great success, attended by around 400 Ukrainians and their hosts from around the local area. The event was kicked off by Michael More-Molyneux, Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, followed by a very moving Ukraine National Anthem and raising of the Ukrainian flag. After the formal proceedings, the guests enjoyed a celebratory picnic, and a variety of entertainment, including live music provided by The Music Works, Ukrainian music and dance, face painting, tattoo transfers and bouncy castles.
The event was a great example of Rotary making a difference in the local community. Many thanks to the many and various individuals who contributed their time and talents to making it so.
