Club Assembly 2019

At the Club’s annual assembly meeting in July, the outgoing President, Mike Slocombe outlined some significant achievements of the Club during the past 12 months. In terms of service work in the community, we have been involved car parking for NCT, gardening for Hydon Hill Home, marshalling for marathons, Scouts meetings and the town fireworks, carol singing at care homes and helping run Kids Out. We raised sufficient funds with our charity golf day, the bridge lunch, the Duck Race and other events to allow us to donate £4,000 each to the main charities for the last year - Air Ambulance and Phyllis Tuckwell HC - as well as smaller donations elsewhere.
The club has enjoyed talks from a wide variety of speakers on many interesting topics and many successful social events. Each year we manage to enhance the cooperation we achieve with the Godalming club which now includes the joint fund-raising Cyclathon event.
Despite the successes, we still have some challenges, most notably in recruiting younger members and more ladies into our club and we still need to raise local awareness of all the things we do.
Mike thanked the club’s members for their support throughout the year and as Mike passed the ribbon and office of President to his successor Andy Jeffery, he hoped Andy would enjoy his year as much.

Andy thanked the club for giving him the honour of being President and said he was looking forward to an exciting year ahead. He highlighted the need for us as a club to identify the ‘hook’ that would attract people to do their voluntary work with us as opposed to individual charities and said he was also keen to ensure that the work Rotary does locally is understood and appreciated by local people.
