At District 1260, our core mission is to support, connect, and champion our incredible network of clubs. There is no better way to do that than by getting out on the road, sharing in fellowship, and hearing firsthand about the fantastic projects being planned across the region.

Yesterday, the spotlight was firmly on the Rotary Club of Luton as they hosted their annual Club Assembly Day at the Chiltern Hotel. It proved to be a magnificent afternoon of warm hospitality, delicious food, and inspiring forward-planning.

A Grand Exchange of History and Fellowship

The event was made even more special by a wonderful moment of inter-club connection. A lone ambassador from the Rotary Club of Welwyn Garden City (WGC) made the journey across the district to join the Luton team.

There is a brilliant, historic parallel between these two vibrant clubs. While WGC is currently celebrating its landmark Centenary Year, the Rotary Club of Luton is hot on their heels, marking its own 98th year of dedicated service.

To commemorate the occasion, a traditional exchange of club pennants took place. In a generous gesture of fellowship, the WGC representative presented Luton with a WGC club pennant, official district leaflets, and a copy of the special history booklet produced for WGC’s centenary. With Luton just two years away from their own centenary milestone, the District team is already looking forward to returning the favour and celebrating their big 100th anniversary in the near future!

Exciting Times Ahead for Luton

The main focus of the Assembly was looking ahead to the upcoming Rotary year. Attendees were treated to a series of comprehensive and inspiring projected reports detailing how Luton plans to make a difference locally and globally.

Key presentations were delivered by:

  • Glyn Early, outlining upcoming initiatives for Local Community work.

  • John Horn, detailing the club’s vision for International projects.

  • John Maddox, who spoke passionately on behalf of David King regarding plans for Fellowship.

The sheer energy and thorough planning on display made it clear that Luton is heading into an incredibly strong and impactful year of service.

Looking Forward: A Busy Summer of Fundraising

The meeting also provided a fantastic platform to highlight some of the major events happening across District 1260 over the coming months. The WGC team took the opportunity to plug their massive Centenary Festivities kicking off this Bank Holiday weekend, alongside three fantastic upcoming summer fundraisers:
