Buddy & Befriending Scheme

Wed, May 31st 2023 at 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Julie Birtwistle from Changing Lives Together will be telling us about this excellent scheme in our area and how we can help.

The Marvellous Honey Bee

Most of us know and love our native bumble bee, but how much do you know about it's smaller and slightly dowdier cousin, the honey bee? It's easy to underestimate this  industrious little insect who will willingly die to protect her colony and work herself to death to ensure the survival of her queen and sisters over the winter. In this presentation, we'll look at a whole host of fascinating facts and figures about bees, their lifestyle and their behaviour, that may change your view of honey bees completely.

Lesley Jacques
Lesley is a Master Beekeeper and Vice Chair of Cheshire Beekeepers' Association as well as being a founder-member of Mid Cheshire Beekeepers Association. She runs about 20 colonies in three apiaries around Northwich. Lesley teaches both beginner beekeepers and also advanced students studying for their own Masters qualification. A scientist by profession, she takes a particular interest in the biology and botanical aspects of her beekeeping, and provides a honeybee disease-diagnosis microscopy service for the county. She is actively involved in beekeeping initatives at a local, county and national level, and like any beekeeper, Lesley is a purveyor of fine single-estate honey from her own colonies.
