This was the Fal River Walk Team Challenge added to this year's Fal River Walk for the first time. The teams would not know the exact nature of the tasks to confront them, except that they had to complete them all, including the 14 mile walk, in fancy dress.
The hype that preceded the event was more challenging than the activities on the day, as seen here. "Don't call us .........." comes to mind, but without doubt CHC's Clare gets the prize for sheer bray-very!
Teams had three challenges
1. hoisting a flag as high as possible with four short poles, one long pole and nine pieces of twine – also designing the flag to hoist. Teams had 15mins for this exercise. The winners' hoist was 14ft.
2. Filling as many buckets of water as possible within 15mins. Team could use 4 short drain pipes, from jug of water from sea to bucket fixed 20 metres away.
3. Stomping on two planks with ten pieces of twine. Team who can walk the planks the furthest in 10mins, whole team together without feet touching the ground.
In addition, team had to entertain the judges with song, dance or whatever. All three teams sang and there was some dancing. "What shall we do with the drunken sailor?" was a popular ditty......
All made it safely to St Mawes where the county's Lord Lieutenant, Col Edward Bolitho OBE, kindly presented the medals and certificates.
