Tonight we held our first hybrid meeting at the Bold Hotel.Members of the club, meeting at the hotel, were joined on Zoom by Polio Ambassador Colin Powell who gave us a very moving account of his life. Colin contracted Polio at the age of 6 months and has fought the disability this dreadful disease causes with strength and fortitude for over 70 years. Despite missing much of his early education, only starting school when he was 11, he went on to study accounting and spent his professional career as an accountant. He is a now an ambassador, not only for the Rotary End Polio Now campaign, but also for the British Polio Fellowship, which aims to support and empower the 120,000+ people in the UK suffering still after contracting polio in their youth. Find out more about the fellowship here https://www.britishpolio.org.uk/ and give them your financial support if you are able.
The photograph shows the club members reflected in the mirrowed wall of the Bold, whilst Colin Powell and visitors join us on Zoom. President Chris Sumner controls the meeting from the laptop.
