Treasure Hunt 26 April 17.30

Anyone arriving at the usual time for the Club meeting on Thursday would have been surprised to find the Westlands Hotel deserted.  Why was this?  The answer was that Director of Fun, Rod Jones, was challenging members to compete in a car Treasure Hunt – an event that has become an annual fixture.  Supporting Rod, Russell and Fiona Wheater had devised a course that led members around the highways and byways of Bridge of Allan.  Local residents were intrigued to see members scrabbling around the various destinations as they sought arcane information.  Even the navigation required to get to these destinations was a challenge for some members who found themselves struggling to turn in single-track roads.  There was a good deal of hilarity as members sought the necessary information without giving away the secrets to others on a similar quest.  Russell and Fiona had made sure that the information was not as accessible as it perhaps might have appeared to be.  So, for example, there was the intriguing sight of members searching diligently in the vicinity of Logie Church for a poem which included a flower - a snowdrop as it turned out.

Even when they returned to the Westlands Hotel for well-earned, and much appreciated, fish and chips, followed by meringue and ice-cream, there were further brainteasers to be answered.  How many speed limit changes, and how many give way signs, were encountered on the route?  Seventeen and seven respectively as it emerged.  Winners were Graham Russell, Lawrie and Liz Orr, with runners up George and Lynn Morrison and Stewart Strathdee.

Our Director of Fun has been busy organizing a number of other events for the Club, with a ten-pin bowling match between Club members and Interactors from Queen Victoria School on 12 June.  A visit to Perth Races follows on 23 June, with a visit to Scotland's National Airshow at the National Museum of Flight at East Fortune Airfield on 28 July.

Meanwhile, Club members are preparing for the annual Duck Race that takes place on Saturday 26 May during the Dunblane Fling weekend.  Ducks will be on sale at the Co-op in Bridge of Allan on Saturday and Sunday 12 and 13 May, and at Dunblane Tesco on Saturday and Sunday 19 and 20 May.  Ducks can also be bought  from Club members, and, on the day of the race, at the Drying Green.

The Club’s Am-Am golf competition takes place at the Dunblane New Golf Club on 21 June. Entries for the competition from foursomes can be made to Jim Gardner at lacmaggard@aol.com.
