Business Meeting and AGM 19 April 2018 18.00

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of the Club, held on Thursday 19 April, was an opportunity to review the activities of the previous year, and to look to events planned for the near future.  

In addition to the reports from committee chairs, a number of Club members were formally nominated and elected to serve on the Council.

There was wholehearted agreement that the 2017/18 programme of activities had been a great success, and tributes were paid to the committee chairs responsible for mounting the many fund-raising and other Club events.  In the past year, over £18,000 had been raised to support local charities. The major events contributing to this sum were the Am-Am golf competition, the Duck Race and crepe-making at local shows. In addition to fund raising, the Club had promoted many other events, including the Shoe Box appeal, the primary school quiz, the concert for older members of the community, and the planting of 5,000 crocuses to promote Rotary’s End Polio campaign.  A varied programme of talks, given at the regular Club meetings on Thursday evenings, had entertained and informed members. A special tribute was paid to President Nominee, Andrew Hilley, for his organization of these.  

Looking ahead, on Saturday 26 May, as an integral part of the Dunblane Fling, there will be the annual Duck Race, for which tickets will shortly be on sale in a number of local venues. 

Then on 21 June there will be the Club’s annual Am-Am golf competition in support of the Strathcarron Hospice.  This major event promises, as ever, to be a highly enjoyable day, with attractive prizes. Entries for teams of four can be made to Jim Gardner at lacmaggard@aol.com 

In concluding the AGM, President George Morrison thanked Club members for the continued support for the Club’s activities.  The many calls on members to give up  their time had unfailingly been given a positive response.  As a result, a significant contribution had been made to local charities and to providing various community activities across all ages. He paid tribute to Graham Russell and his team which had recently planted 400 assorted dogwood in the Memorial Park in Bridge of Allan.  This was in fulfillment of a worldwide Rotary initiative to plant ten trees for each member. Given the commitment of members, he was sure that in the year ahead, under the Presidency of John Kilby, the Club would continue to thrive. 

The meeting of the Rotary Club on Thursday 3 May will be held at the Westlands Hotel, Doune Road, at 6.00 for 6-30pm. The speaker will be Sara Morrison who will talk about her year in Honduras with Project Trust .
