Trip to Isle of May

Well we all arrived at Anstruther harbour and the weather was fine but with a forecast for showers, and we set sail for a reasonably choppy crossing to the island, choppy enough to have some loose their sea legs.

When we landed on the island we were greeted by a warden who gave us all a quick briefing and during this the heavens opened but luckily this soon passed and the rest of the two and a half hours on the island was dry.

We were dive bombed by the arctic terns as we left the landing area, this was also their nesting area and their chicks were just about to hatch, there were several pecked heads!

We were all able to get up close to all the sea birds, as we walked around the island and our time was quicky spent and it was time to board the May Princess for the sail home.  All looked quite calm as we boarded but then the captain advised that we were protected from the weather by the island and that we would soon loose this protection.  He was right and the storm that he had predicted was soon rocking and rolling the boat quite strongly and waves were coming over the sides.  The skipper and crew were super as cases of mal de mer arose in many of the passengers.

Eventually we docked at Anstruther some of us a little worse for wear but having had a great day out to be remembered for some time.

The hardy ones among the group stopped for a fish supper at the chip shop.
