For the first time in the 28 years of running the annual Am-Am Golf match in aid of Strathcarron Hospice, the weather finally took its toll last Thursday and the event had to be cancelled as the course at Dunblane New Golf Club was unplayable.
It was a huge disappointment to the organisers, sponsors, teams, volunteers and staff who put so much effort into making this day the biggest fundraising event run by the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane.
Chair of the Hospice Support Committee, Jim Gardner, expressed his thanks to everyone who had been involved and said he had managed to arrange an alternative date for the event on 2 August and was hoping conditions would have improved by then.
The evening meeting was turned into a bit of fun when (soon to be past) President Rod set members a task to make an origami crane, the new symbol for Rotary for 2012-13.
The less attentive members soon realised this was a task too far and reverted to paper aeroplanes. Fortunately for the aviation industry, they have much better design and construct facilities nowadays!
