Fellowship Weekend - Visit to Edinburgh Tattoo

Fri, Aug 19th 2011 at 12:00 am- Sun, Aug 21st 2011 - 12:00 am

On Friday, 8 members and spouses made their way to Haddington for the start of our Fellowship Weekend visit to events in Edinburgh.

After dinner on Friday, our coach took us to the Royal Mile where President Rod had arranged a Ghost Walk. Our tour guide, Kimberley, soon had pulses racing as she explained some of the macabre events which took place in the underground city in the 18th century. Secretary Graham was even elevated to royalty, however his reign was short lived as he was soon tortured, dropped on his head, decapitated and cut into pieces, much to the crowd's approval!

We then visited some of the underground vaults where ghosts were often seen and felt by visitors. Our party emerged intact, if a little paler than they went in.

After a day sightseeing on Saturday, we again boarded our bus back to Edinburgh to see the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. This year's theme was the naval heritage of Britain and there were colourful displays and bands from around the world. A spectacular firework show rounded off a splendid evening before we returned to our hotel for a welcome sleep. After breakfast on Sunday, we headed home but not before Past President Eric Abell had thanked Rod for organising an excellent weekend, which everyone had enjoyed immensely.
