Turkey - Syria Earthquake appeal

Sat, Feb 18th 2023 at 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Turkey and Syria were struck by a devastating earthquake on 6 February that has killed tens of thousands of people, destroyed thousands of homes and other structures, and left people across the region without shelter in bitterly cold winter weather.

TURKEY – SYRIA EARTHQUAKE

Rotary has had a project partnership with Shelterbox since it was established in 2000. Based in Truro, Cornwall, Shelterbox does what it says on the tin, providing shelter and essential items such as a tent for 10 people, cooking utensils, blankets, children’s books and much more, with the prime aim of assisting families to recover and rebuild their lives after conflict or disasters.

An emergency response unit is constantly assessing the needs in the earthquake region as to how best we can assist. Teams on the ground are communicating with Rotary district leaders everywhere, who are then leading clubs and raising awareness about how to continue to support the affected areas.

The response from Rotary Newton Aycliffe is to hold a bucket collection in Tesco on Saturday 18th February, 10am until 4pm. Our community expects nothing less from our hard-working members and you know you can trust Rotary to get the funds and equipment to the right places at the right time.
