International projects

Our International Committee has had a productive year, with our flagship Sand Dams initiative reaching significant milestones. We are proud to announce that our first dam in Kenya was completed in January. Phase 2 is now well underway; with a generous £1,000 pledge from the Aboyne & Upper Deeside club, our funds have reached £6,886. We are also looking further afield, pledging £5,000 toward a multi-district project with the Salmon Arm Daybreak RC in British Columbia for a 2026 build, while simultaneously pursuing District and Global Grants to maximize our impact.
Fundraising efforts have been bolstered by the incredible generosity of our members and community. Our recent Race Night at the Ashvale Chipper was a resounding success, raising £1,830. Additionally, our "In lieu of Christmas cards" initiative raised £475 for Smile Train. Looking ahead, we are finalising preparations for the Bingo Night on June 13th, with proceeds to be shared between Sand Dams and local charity Abernecessities. We also continue to support Shelterbox and have streamlined our End Polio Now contributions to direct donations to ensure more funds reach the charity, complemented by our upcoming "Walk a Mile" event in October.
On the fellowship front, we are delighted to have re-linked with the Ikast Rotary Club in Denmark. We are currently working to rebuild our twinning relationship to foster better international links and potential future exchanges. The Committee would like to extend a huge thank you to all members for their ongoing support and dedication to these international initiatives; your contributions truly make a difference
