Richard Holton aged 91, died on Friday the 17th. October 2025.
Before retiring and moving to Whissendine in 1995 Richard and his wife Jenny lived at White House Farm Rearsby, where their marriage produced two daughters, Fiona, who was born special needs and died at an early age, and Sarah now living with her family in Fairford, Gloucestershire.
Richard ran a dairy herd of some 70 cows and was very active in local farming circles as a member of Queniborough Farmers, the Leicestershire Grassland Society and Chairman of the local National Farmers Union. Jenny too was active as President of the Brooksby Gardening Club and supporter of Arthritis care in Syston.
In 1988 Richard joined the Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray Belvoir and became President in 2002/03 and Rotary District representative of the Calvert Trust in the Lake District responsible for providing outward bound courses for disabled children.
On selling the farm, Richard became an active member of the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) based in Melton and for which he served for over a decade giving help and advice to many people in their time of need. He was also a sides man at the Whissendine Parish Church and went swimming twice a week with two close friends.
In 2019 on the advice of daughter Sarah, Richard and Jenny moved to Fairford buying the house next door to Sarah and family. Covid followed soon after and restricted their activities. Eventually due to ill health, Jenny moved into a local Care Home and Richard followed quite recently.
A good man and a wonderful friend who served his community well.
