‘MELTON MOWBRAY, PREMIER SHIRE TOWN OF THE 1830’s’ is the latest book by local author and recognised local historian Derek Simmonds. It is a unique look at a period of history considered by many to be a golden age.
Derek has previously published several books including ‘Wicklow Lodge Military Hospital’ relating the story of its role in the first world war, ‘Our Unforgotten Debt’ about the Melton Territorials in WW1 and ‘More Than Just a Market’ a booklet marking the centenary of the cattle market.
All his publications have raised considerable amounts for various charities including this latest one which will be donated to research into ‘Stiff Person Syndrome’
Derek is also recognised for his work in producing an illustrated Melton WW1 walking trial guide to mark its centenary in 2018, and for championing the recognition of two important buildings in the town with a prestigious Green Plaque at the Drill Hall and Wicklow Lodge.
His latest book is available online from Amazon and also for the special price of £19.99p from the Lions Hub in the Bell Centre with all proceeds going to ‘Stiff Person Syndrome’.
