£10,000 given to Macmillan Cancer Support by Melton Belvoir Rotary
Arising from the proceeds of a very successful concert given by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, which played to a full house in the Melton Theatre earlier in the year, the Melton Belvoir Rotary Club raised an amazing amount of money for Macmillan Cancer Support. President Gordon Wells presented a cheque for £10,000 to Janet Gilchrist, secretary of the local Macmillan group.
This success would not have happened without the initiative and enthusiasm of Derek Simmonds who got the club to support him and the generous support of sponsors including Samworth Bros., Smith Elliot Partners, Melton Lions Club, Greene King, Co-op Funeral, Melton Bowls Club, Melton Rotary Club and Parkers.
The concert was originally booked for before the pandemic but the band was able to reschedule it.
To show the gratitude of the club Derek was presented with Rotary’s highest award, A Paul Harris Fellowship. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary. Derek was very grateful to the club and thanked the team that worked with him.
