"THE REAL STORY OF LIFE IN UKRAINE FOR CHILDREN, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS"
Our member, Robin Jowit, gave an impassioned talk on Friday 31st May at Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, Richmond, about his visits to Ukraine to see the various projects being supported or sponsored by Kew Gardens Rotary.
Robin is also a long-standing member of Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club. He has travelled to a war-weary Ukraine three times, offering direct support to schoolchildren in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. On his most recent visit in December 2025, he visited 30 schools and charities, providing help "on the ground" and assessing where assistance was most urgently needed.
Equipment supplied to schools included over 100 laptops, battery packs for schoolchildren, teachers and small local charities, 3D printers (with appropriate supplies and programs to run them), STEM engineering equipment, water fountains, and much more.
There were around 40 attendees at the talk, including a Ukrainian Army Major on a training visit to the UK. A basic 3D printer was demonstrated to show how they work, even producing a few small items.
Much social networking in the bar afterwards!
