The David Mitchell Award this year is made to the past and present members of the Lighthouse Organising Committee, remembering also the many hundreds of other volunteers who enrolled over the years. Since its start in 1988, organised by our own late Past President George Rivas and other likeminded people, Lighthouse has provided a holiday week for children run by Christians from local churches in the Great Missenden, Prestwood and surrounding areas of Buckinghamshire. Each day between 10.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. in the first week of the school summer holidays, children up to age 11 come to the Large Marquees on Buryfield in Great Missenden. Here they come to learn more about God through drama, craft, singing and games. Anyone aged 12 years or older is invited to help. Lighthouse does not charge children to attend as they firmly believe that no child should miss out for financial reasons. Throughout the year, they hold fundraising events and also ask their supporters to make regular donations and ask parents sending their children to donate wherever possible. A tremendous responsibility, volunteering to look after hundreds of children each day, this year's David Mitchell Award is richly deserved by the Lighthouse Volunteers.
