Rotary Wickford supports End Polio Now!

Rotary in Essex and Herts recognised Rotary Wickford for its effortsin the eradication of Polio

One of the passions of Rotarians everywhere is the Rotary Foundation, Rotary’s own global charity, which raises and distributes over $100 million annually in grant support for humanitarian and educational projects worldwide. Foundation scores 100% in the Charity Navigator ratings, with 94p in every £1 being used for charitable causes.

One of the biggest causes which Foundation supports is the eradication of Polio worldwide, an global immunisation programme which was started in 1979. In 2009 Bill Gates of Microsoft joined the fray to match any funds raised by Rotary worldwide which dramatically accelerated the efforts to eradicate the disease (https://www.endpolio.org/). The disease is now only endemic in Pakistan and Afghanistan, having been largely eradicated from the rest of the world through mass immunisation.

Early each year Rotary in Essex and East Herts District holds a Foundation lunch to celebrate the cause and to raise awareness and funds Foundation, and during the recent lunch, Rotary Wickford was recognised as one of the largest contributors in the District in the last Rotary Year to the Foundation End Polio Now fund. Rotarian Peter Carter, Foundation Chair for 2023-4 was pleased to receive a certificate recognising Wickford’s contribution to the global effort. Again, we couldn’t do this without you.

So, thank you in advance for your continued support and we hope that you genuinely have a happy and healthy 2025.

We have also had a few enquiries about what we do and what is involved in being part of Rotary.  If you’d like to know more about what we do then just contact us via email at info@wickfordrotary.org.uk!
