Wickford Rotary welcomed Jane Bassom as our newest Friend during our recent Charter Night. Jane, a member of Wickford’s Inner Wheel, decided recently that she wanted to forge a stronger relationship with the Club by taking on the role of Friend of Wickford Rotary.
President Pauline presented Jane with her “Friend of Rotary” badge and wished her well in her new association with the Club.
Being a Friend of Rotary is not the same as being a member of the Club, and a Friend is not entitled to the rights or subject to the responsibilities of membership. Rather, a Friend has a formal association with the club, which provides an avenue to participate in club activities. For some people being a member of the Club might not be possible due to the level of commitment that position involves, perhaps because of work or other commitments but being a Friend enables the person to engage with the members and the Club and getting involved in the activities undertaken, and doesn’t preclude the Friend from full membership should the desire take them at some later stage.
