When Ben Bolton, grandson of the late John Bolton, a long standing past member of the Rotary Club of Wickford, volunteered to help at a school and local community doctors in Uganda, his parents were very proud of his plans. After he had been there for a couple of months it became apparent that there was the likelihood that the school might need to close down because the toilets at the school were deemed to be unsanitary and inadequate.
His immediate reaction was to put up his own savings to help with the building of new latrines, which would go somewhere towards the building project, but not cover the cost in its entirety.
When the Rotary Club of Wickford heard of the situation, the members decided to contribute the cause, and to this end has made £1000 available to fund the completion of the latrines.
Ben, Master John, the school's headmaster and the rest of the pupils have expressed sincere thanks for the donation
