It seems almost unbelievable that this was the thirty-sixth year that the Wickford Rotary Club had organised this event. This year five schools took part and a total of twenty speakers entertained a large audience of parents, pupils, friends, teachers and members of Wickford and South Woodham Ferrers Rotary Clubs with thought provoking speeches on a wide variety of topics.
The five schools taking part were William de Ferrers School from South Woodham Ferrers, Beauchamps High School and Bromfords School from Wickford, The Billericay School and The Appleton School from Benfleet.
For those of us who have attended these evenings over the years and whose expectations are therefore very high, we were in no way disappointed by the standard or the quality of the speeches we heard. The three independent judges certainly had a hard task to decide on the winning speeches and the winning team.
The winners in the three age groups were as follows:-
