Three classes from Year 2 at Gidea Park Primary School joined in on the crocus planting scheme which signifies the ‘End Polio Now’ campaign promoted by Rotary worldwide and the Royal Horticultural Society.
The youngsters learnt about this debilitating disease which was once prevalent in this country up to the 1950’s and the vaccine developed to prevent it.
With planting trowels and gloves they set about scattering and then digging in some 5000 corms supplied by the Borough’s Parks Department.
President Sheila Barnett & Head teacher Miss Conner invited the Deputy Mayor Linda van Den Hende to officiate and at the same time have a go for herself.
