INTER CLUB LIASON COMMITTEE 2017/18
Chair - Syd Peters
Havering Rotary Inter Club Liason Group aims to foster close links between the three Rotary Clubs in the London Borough of Havering - Hornchurch & Upminster, Havering East and Romford.
Committee members comprise of two representatives from each of the four Rotary Clubs, meeting regularly on an informal basis.
The group has two goals: helping and supporting our local community through joint club action; and making the work of Rotary, both locally and internationally, more widely known within our borough.
The work of the group includes:
Once a month we visit Queens Hospital in Romford to promote the take up of the Message in a Bottle scheme.
We have a display and table located in the foyer of the hospital, so can easily pass on information to the visitors there and supply them with bottles if they wish.
This is for vulnerable people with medical conditions that may require a home visit from any of the Emergency medical teams operating in the Havering area.
Each bottle contains 2 stickers: one is placed on the inside of the persons front door, and the other is placed on the fridge door. It also contains a sheet with all the relevant information about the prospective patient so that he or she can be treated with confidence in an emergency situation.
Each summer the liason group joins forces at the Havering Show at Harrow Lodge Park. We have a stand and display which we share with St Francis Hospice.
The main event will be to promote the "Win this car for 1". The car is usually supplied by courtesy of Inchcape, the local VW dealer who will pay for the insurance cover.
This year there will be no cost for renting the site as the Mayor of Havering has nominated St Francis Hospice as his preferred charity.
Contestants are invited to throw seven dice of all sixes to win the car. A consolation prize of 25 is paid to the contestant who throws the highest aggregate score in one throw. Pics...
As well as supporting the community, we do like to encourage a good friendly relationship with the other club's members, and to this end we have annual Darts and Tenpin bowling evenings.
All great fun and makes it much easier to work together on the more serious stuff when it arises.
