ROTARY YOUTH SPEAKS COMPETITION Written by Anna Day on March 18, 2016. Posted in English And Media,Parent News, Promoted News, School News On the 16th March, Ella Humphris, Elliot Jackson and Emily Carman, Year 11 students from the Harwich and Dovercourt High School triumphed in the District finals of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition, winning both Best Speaker and Best Overall Group. The event took place at Chelmsford County Chambers, Chelmsford and was organised by the Rotary Club to give young people the opportunity to express their opinions on a topic of their choice. Each 10 minute presentation consisted…of a 2 minute introduction from the Chairperson (Ella Humphris), a 6 minute speech by the Main Speaker (Emily Carman) followed by a short question time and concluded by a 2 minute summary from the Proposer of the Vote of Thanks (Elliot Jackson). The audience were stunned by the quality, professionalism and delivery of the “underdogs” performance, raising points on the age-old prophecy that actions speak louder than words. Their full circle performance explored the various issues surrounding morality in today’s society; a topic that Emily Carman believes is “becoming a lost cause.” We look forward to the finals in Bedford on Sunday 17th ( they won and are at the Final on 7th May 2016 at Preston! )
