UCAN Walking Buddies initiative
At last Thursday’s club meeting, members were joined by Tessa Deriziotis from UCAN, who spoke about the Walking Buddies initiative, which is coordinated by Tessa.
Walking Buddies is an initiative that helps people who, for various reasons, find it difficult to leave their homes. Volunteers are paired with those in need, and together they go for walks. These walks can be as short as to the end of the person’s road or much further, depending on their individual needs.
Currently there are more people with a need than there are Walking Buddies, so Tessa is seeking additional Buddies to help support the initiative.
More details on Walking Buddies can be found on the UCAN site https://www.ucan.org.uk/walking-buddies/ including how to volunteer. All volunteers are DBS and reference checked and are provided with appropriate training.
Tessa is seen with Rotary Club of Dunmow President Lois Sparkes following her talk.
