Today, 24th October, is World Polio Day. The Rotary organisation, which the Rotary Club of Dunmow is proud to be part of, has played a major part in eradicating polio since 1985.
When the Rotary organisation started PolioPlus in 1985 the disease was paralysing 1,000+ children every single day in 125 polio-endemic countries, now through a mass vaccination campaign just two countries have a small number of wild polio cases.
As part of this year’s campaign, the Rotary Club of Dunmow purchased several thousand crocus bulbs. The money for which goes towards the End Polio project. These bulbs will be planted in Threaders Green, adjacent to the Queen Victoria pub, within the next few weeks. This will allow everyone entering Dunmow to enjoy the beautiful spring flowers when they bloom and serve as a lasting reminder of the EndPolioNow campaign.
