Jemma Williams being thanked by Michael Chapman

Porridge & Pens

Last Thursday Dunmow Rotarians were joined by Jemma Williams from the charity Porridge & Pens.  Jemma explained that after seeing a TV program about the plight of some children in Africa, she decided to take a Gap year and travel to Ghana.  After seeing first hand the educational difficulties experienced by children in the area she visited, she returned to her home town, Brightlingsea, and setup the charity Porridge & Pens.

The charity has established and supports the Brightlingsea academy in Ghana to educate young children and to provide a breakfast of porridge and lunch as well as providing pens to aid their education. The Rotarians were all very impressed by what Jemma has been able to achieve and wished her continued success with her charity.

In the picture Jemma is seen being thanked by current Dunmow Rotary President Michael Chapman, who is also presenting a donation from the club to Porridge and Pens.
