Rotary Club of Dunmow organised the local Youth Debate competition on Monday 2nd December. The event was hosted by Felsted School.
Six teams from both Felsted School and Helena Romanes School took part, four intermediate teams and two senior teams.
The subjects debated by the intermediate teams were:
Helena Romanes School - Why movies are better than books.
Felsted School - The English curriculum should be changed to include more diversity.
Helena Romanes School - Is colonising Mars the solution to the overpopulation of Earth?
Felsted School - Performance enhancing drugs should be decriminalised in sport.
The subjects debated by the senior teams were:
Felsted School - The voting age should be lowered to 16.
Helena Romanes School - The meat industry is cruel and inhumane, causing unnecessary distress to animals. Eating meat is unnecessary - Go veggie!

They will now go on to compete in the district final which will be held in the Council Chambers, County Hall, Chelmsford on 4th March 2020.
