The following competitions are open to young people up to 17 on 31st August 2026. Entries for Young Artist, Environmentalist, Photographer and Writer are welcome at any time in the year up to the deadline, which this year is Friday 12th February 2027.
1. Young Artist 2026-27. This competition is open to anyone from 5*-17 years old. The theme this year is ‘Friendship’. (Closing date for entries is Friday 12th February 2027.)
2. Young Environmentalist 2026-27. This competition is open to anyone from 5*-17 years old. The theme this year is 'Friendship'. (Closing date for actual entries is Friday 12th February 2027.)
3. Young Photographer 2026-27. This competition is open to anyone from 5*-17 years old. The theme this year is 'Friendship'. (Closing date for entries is Friday 12th February 2027.)
4. Young Writer 2026-27. This competition is open to anyone from 5*-17 years old. The theme this year is 'Friendship'. (Closing date for entries is Friday 12th February 2027.)
5. Young Musician 2026-27. The competition this year will be part of broader Young Musician Festival, which will allow young musicians from a wider geographical area to take part, with trophies for the best overall vocalist, instrumentalist & composer. The event will be run on the same guidelines for the Rotary Young Musician competition with the highest placed local Young musicians going forward to the Rotary District 1240 event on 27th February.
The competition is open to anyone from 5*-17 years old. This year’s competition will again include a local Young Composer section. The date for the competition is Sunday 17th January 2026, between 10am - 5pm, in Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow. The closing date for entries is Friday 8th January 2027.
* The competitions for those below 7 years of age are at a local level only.
Every year we hold an awards evening in May/June to which teachers and families are invited. All participants get a certificate and the winning entries receive a prize. Winners of each competition and category are also invited to go onto the next stage of the national competitions.
