Stephen King, President of Chelmsford Rivermead Rotary, set himself a personal challenge of a solo run on 17 May (date of postponed Great Baddow Charity Races due to Covid-19 lockdown) to support the 2020 Races two main charities - Barrow Farm Riding for the Disabled and Dementia Adventure. He raised approaching close to £3000.
For a week or so beforehand our club members supported Stephen virtually and some even managed to cheer him on in person on the day.
It really was a tremendous effort from Stephen. His run was well covered on social media, on BBC Essex and in the Essex Chronicle, and Stephen was also interviewed on Rotary Roundup (June), CCR, Chelmsford Community Radio on 104.4 FM.
Stephen's own account:
"Running conditions were as good as I could have wished for. Numerous supporters from Rotary clubs and neighbours in the road. Off on time at 10 am and completed in 1 hour 56 minutes which was very satisfying to beat my two hour target.
Plenty of supporters suitably socially distanced in Springfield Green which certainly helped to motivate me to keep going."
