Dogs for Good

Dear Friends

Thank you for sponsoring one of our newest recruits, black Labrador pup, Orville. He is now ready to begin his first year of training with Dogs for Good and he has a busy 12 months ahead of him !

Little Orville took no time at all to settle in with Emma, his volunteer puppy socialiser who he will live with f6-r the next year. She will teach him basic obedience such as sit, lie down, and stay which will ensure he is a well mannered young pup. When he gets bigger and is ready to start going out with her, she will make sure that he learns how to walk nicely on a lead. lt is important that our puppies don't lunge or pull, so Emma will teach him to be a polite young dog.

As a special puppy in training, he will be able to go into public places like shops and supermarkets, and will even accompany Emma to the doctor's surgery, dentist appointments and the opticians. Assistance and community dogs may visit these places on a regular basis, so Orville must be familiar and confident in all sorts of situations.

Emma and Orville will be given plenty of support from the puppy team at Dogs for Good, who will visit them at their home, as well as seeing them at puppy classes. This will be a great opportunity for Orville to play and interact with other young dogs in training as well as to show that he is learning all of the skills that he will need when he begins formaltraining next year.

A young puppy like Orville might go on to help someone with a physical disability, or help a child with autism. He might even be a community dog where he is providing support to a whole group of people. He will be assessed throughout his socialising to determine which service he will go on to based on his nature, character and natural strengths.

His special training will mean that he will give increased confidence and independence that we know, can truly change people's lives. Of course, he will also offer an unconditional love and companionship beyond compare..
