At the recent annual Rotary Young Chef competition, Lyla Thompson, a member of the St Nicholas School, Old Harlow intermediate team, was crowned Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Young Chef for 2022. Lyla was chosen by the judging panel as the best individual participant and will go forward to represent The Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford at the District Rotary Young Chef competition next year.
Teams from four local secondary schools took part in the competition held at Birchwood High School. Each team had to produce a 3 course healthy meal for two for £20 in 90 minutes – quite a challenge! The winner of the junior competition was a team from Saint Nicholas School, Old Harlow, comprised of Lucy McMillan, Maria Viveiros, Sofia Fry and the intermediate competition was one by the team from Birchwood High School – Rebecca Bedwell, Kiaya Payne and Amber Owen.
The judging panel included Simon Cottam of Host in Bishop’s Stortford and Sanjay Kumar, sous chef at Novotel, Stansted.
