Beating the pandemic and getting on with our normal business and events, 2021 has seen us win an Rotary International Citation Award, break new ground with our crowdfunding via GlobalGiving with expectations we will be able to build 10 borewells, four more than our initial objectives,. In addition, we have carried on duties with our RotaKids, continued to raise money for Charity with our participation in the Billericay Fun Walk and blindfold walk for ORBIS, and once again enjoying face-to-face fellowship in our new home at the Beauvoir Arms in Downham just outside Billericay.
So … reason to celebrate, which we will do on October 30 with a prestigious Charter Lunch at the Magic Mushroom when we are delighted to welcome Honorary Member the Lord Petre, our District Governor Keith Brownlie and wife Carol, other guests including Gytha Washington, President of Billericay Town and her husband John, President-Elect Mark Chambers of Billericay Mayflower and wife Stephanie, including our Rotarian friends at Basildon.
We are expecting a fun-laden talk by our speaker Jane Malyon, an expert on afternoon tea and its etiquette. She is MD (“Chief Scone Gnome”) of The English Cream Tea Company and runs an events tea room, and also holds the Guinness World Record for the largest English Cream Tea ever (2013). She has an Amazon best selling book: Scone or Scon(e) - the essential Guide to British Afternoon Tea.
