Kilmarnock Rotary heard this week about an amazing fundraising trip to Mount Kilimanjaro.
Joy Rivett told members how she and 4 other willing volunteers made their way to Tanzania and Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for local charity Whiteleys Retreat. After a year training on Scottish hills the group had mixed fortunes tackling the 19,430 ascent of Kilimanjaro with fatigue and particularly altitude sickness taking its toll.
Some fascinating photographs showed the terrain and the long walk in, accompanied by local Tanzanian guides and porters. Joy and her fellow walkers raised a fantastic £40,000 for Whiteleys Retreat.
Whiteleys Retreat are repeating the trek in July 2021. Anybody interested please contact Whiteleys Retreat.
