Report

Chief Superintendent Mark Hargreaves, Divisional Commander of Ayrshire Police, was the guest speaker at a recent Rotary Club meeting.  Mark delivered a broad and fast-moving description and analysis of ‘what’s happening in Ayrshire’ with regards to policing statistics, priorities and identity. Mark joined the Police in 2000 and has worked in a variety of sectors and locations, before coming back to Ayrshire.  Within Ayrshire the priorities include tackling the social problem of drugs, (dealing and misuse, with the associated links to theft), anti-social behaviour and violence and protecting people at risk.  Mark also mentioned that Police Scotland has to rise to the new challenges (and opportunities) now facing Scottish society, such as cyber-crime, the growing issues surrounding the protection of the vulnerable, mental health, hate and domestic violence.  The demand upon our local police force shows no signs of easing up, with 80% of police time being taken up supporting the local community with what would be regarded as no-crime incidents.  There were many question and Rotarian Alastair Crabb gave the vote of thanks.
