Allander members have been heavily involved in Santa’s Grotto since its inception as trustees of Milngavie Youth Centre (MYC). Our membership decided that we should take on ownership of organising and running the Grotto this year.
With the usual location at the MYC not being available a new location was identified and our thanks go to St Andrew's Evangelical Church for the use of their Hall in Stewart St. with their Garden Room being turned into Santa’ Grotto. The hall enabled the writing of letters to Santa and most of the queuing to be done inside.
On a bad weather day getting inside was a blessing however it affected turnout. After a very slow start and with some improvement to the weather eventually 166 children visited Santa. This is less than half of the previous year’s total. As a result we had some perishable presents left over. With the agreement of the BID, who underwrote the event, we have donated 80 selection boxes to Milngavie branch of ED Foodbank.
As well as a new location we had been offered the use of some inflatables. A few were used inside (see picture) with most being in the garden. Unfortunately water got into the electrics very early on and resulted in the circuit breakers being blown. Maybe next year.
