Over 120 attended with 70 paying to get their valuables assessed by Great Western Auction experts. After costs we can report that just under £430 has been raised for charity.

Charity Duck Race 2024

Just over £1600 has been raised from this year's charity duck race on Saturday 1st June. Initial results from our annual duck race are listed below. First 5 are winners and will be contacted. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.

Fire Walk

Fire Walk arranged by Allander Rotary to enable local organisations and charities to raise funds through something a bit different. Over £8,700 has been raised by the participants. We are really pleased with the outcome.

Pants, Bras, Coins and Notes Collection

Our collections at Tesco on Friday 13th Oct gathered a total of 233 new pants and gently used bras for Smalls for All worth over £300 and the old UK and foreign currency donated has resulted in around £200 for charity.

Signed Scotland Rugby Shirt raffle raises over £300

Our signed Scotland Rugby Shirt raffle has been won by Debbi from Bearsden who bought winning ticket #45. Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket or donated. Over £300 has been raised for Kidney Kids.

Guest Speaker - Professor Mhairi Copland, Director of the Paul O'Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre, aka “POG” , is a state-of-the-art research laboratory focussing on different types of blood cancer.

Primary School Quiz 2023

Annual Quiz for local EDC Primary Schools. Teams of 4 from P7. Winners were Castlehill PS who went onto the District final where they came a very credible 2nd.

What is a ShelterBox? What is in it? How does it support those in need following a disaster eg earthquakes, floods, etc? See and find out the answers at the Highland Games. There were 1294 coins in the vase. Details below.

Hamper Raffle Result

Record of the winners and money raised for East Dunbartonshire Foodbank from a Hamper Raffle in December 2022. 675 tickets sold. Additional donations means £800 going to the ED Foodbank.

Thanks to everyone who donated to our RNLI collection at ALDI, Milngavie on Friday 20th June. An excellent amount of £319.03 was collected.

Fun stall at the Highland Games

Thanks to everyone who participated. We hope you enjoyed our events and winners enjoyed their prizes. Our charity fund raiser was a Tombola for adults and 'Pick a Duck for kids where everyone won a prize.

Duck Race 2022

Our charity duck race will be back as part of Milngavie Week. We have 1200 brand new ducks waiting to get wet. Watch out this space for more details of when and how to buy a duck and what prizes will be on offer.

On Line Charity Auction

A wide range of lots under £10 to over £300 in value. Thanks to everyone who supported this charity fund raiser. Over £500 was raised for the 3 charities. Lots that were not bid for are being distributed to local and Scottish based charities.

Santa Race and more

Our online races are back. As well as Santa and Snowmen races this year we also have Elfs and Huskies pulling sledges. Donate to charity and have some fun with family, friends or workmates. £5 for 2 races of your choice. £1 or £2 more gets extra races.

Boat Building Competition

At 3pm on Sat 11th Sept, the entries to our Boat Building Competition set off down the Allander. There were 3 winners in the competition, who are pictured with their entries. L to R Jacob (Aesthetic Design), Aiden (Engineering Design) and Rory Race).

Adventure Golf

Members visited Jurassic Parrr on 18th Sept for a fun day out as the first social event of our Rotary year. Somehow Ian managed to lose his ball down an unplanned hole. He wasn't the first as there were at least 3 balls inside the rock.

RNLI Collection

Purple for Polio Crocuses

In association with Milngavie in Bloom, 3,500 crocuses were planted last October in the grassy area off Elangowan Road beside the pedestrian crossing. What's it all about? Find out here.

Online Santa Races

Kidney Kids

Allander Rotary present a cheque for £36,220 to Kidney Kids Scotland,founded in July 2000 to help children with renal illness and their families. Families continue to be a priority for the Charity ensuring they are supported when they most need it.

Milngavie Week 2020 & Duck Race

Milngavie Week has been cancelled due to Covid-19. The Duck Race will not take place in June but may be held later in the year. A decision on this will be taken after the summer and will be dependent on Covid-19 status.

Lecture 2020

After the inaugural lecture in 2019, we are pleased to announce our 2020 lecture. It will be on Oetzi, the Iceman and given by world renown expert Professsor James H Dickson. Date for your diary is Thursday, 23rd April in Kilmardinny House Bearsden.

Fund raiser held September 2019 with experts from Great Western Auctions including Anita Manning. Held at Boclair House Hotel who did not charge for the use of their function suite. Photos from the event attached.

Charity Duck Race 2019

The Duck Race has finished. 2000 ducks went off from the bridge at Gavin's Mill. There were 10 winning ducks 1213, 195, 865, 816, 1246, 396, 672, 88, 617, 684. Thanks to everyone who supported the event. We are already looking forward to next year.

Rotakids

Rotary for Children aged 12 and under. Killermont Primary School have become Allander Rotary's first affiliated Rotakids Club.

Doors Open Event

Primary School Quiz 2019

This year's competition was won by Killermont Primary who went onto represent Allander Rotary at the District Competition on 21st May where they came a very creditable 5th (of 21 schools).

Ripples from the Dark Side of the Universe

Proving Einstein's 1916 prediction of the existence of gravitational waves has been the challenge Professor Sir James Hough has worked on from a young physicist to world expert. This has now been achieved through perseverance and development skills.

50 Year Logo Competition

A school competition to design a logo for Allander Rotary's 50 year celebrations in 2020. Prizes were awarded to the top three entries which all came from 3rd year pupils at Douglas Academy.

Young Writer 2018

Sarah Greer is presented with her certificate as 2018 Winner of the local Senior Young Writer's Competition. Young Writer is a well established and successful competition promoted by Rotary International in Britain and Ireland.

Young Musician 2018

Esther Ersfold Mandujano a 4th year pupil at Douglas Academy won the Instrumental Prize at the District Final of Rotary Young Musician held in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Unfortunately Esther was unsuccessful at the Regional Final.

2018 Quiz District Winners - Milngavie Primary

Following their win in our Annual Quiz for all of the Primary Schools in Bearsden, Milngavie and immediate surrounding area (13 primary schools) Milngavie have now successfully won the West of Scotland District Competition.

Two Allander Rotarians named Paul Harris Fellows

For their extensive work on the creation and establishment of the Clyde Coastal Path, including a supporting Guidebook, Iain White and Vincent Cuddihy have been named as Paul Harris Fellows. Outgoing President Ian Sim presented their awards.

A record surplus of over £6000 was achieved fromn our 2018 Annual Charity Fund Raiser that was held on Thursday 22nd February was hosted by John Beattie with guest speakers Willie Allan and Willie Hunter.

Clyde Coastal Path

The Firth o Clyde Rotary Trail (FoCRT) runs from the Mull of Galloway to Milngavie via Greenock and the Erskine Bridge. The route comprises the Mull of Galloway Trail, The Ayrshire Coastal Path and the Clyde Coastal Path.

Euroscola 2018

Douglas Academy pupil Isla Martin attended Euroscola 2018, sponsored by Allander. 26 young people from across Scotland joined others from the EU in Strasbourg to experience and be involved at the European Parliament. An experience she really enjoyed.

Purple4Polio

Eradicating polio has been Rotary's main humanitarian focus for over 30 years. Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland's Purple4Polio campaign is providing communities with ideas and opportunities to get involved in ridding the world of polio.
