Community Awards were presented to Laurie Brown, John Murphy, Graeme McKinley and Tom Williamson for their services to the Community. Club Awards were presented to Matt Purdie, David Buchanan, Brian Johnson and Eric Proven.

It was a very special evening on Thursday the 20th June at the Thirty Knots restaurant where Rotary South Queensferry held their annual awards evening.  This event is held to recognise and celebrate all the fantastic voluntary work members of the club and wider local communities undertake.

There were four Community Award winners who each received recognition certificates. They were Graeme McKinley for his service to the local Community Council and his tireless work supporting events such as the Ferry Fair and Christmas in Queensferry. Tom Williamson for his long service to Queensferry and Dalmeny Parish Church and local environmental groups. John Murphy who spearheaded the formation of the Queensferry Heritage Trust and Laurie Brown for his devotion to the Queensferry and Dalmeny Parish Church over many years and his support with a range of other community events and activities.

The Ronald Ainsworth Trophy is an award presented annually to a local young person deemed by a judging panel including the late Ronald Ainsworth’s wife Sheana to have delivered exceptional service to the community. This year the award was won by Lennon Wright a very talented young man who has faced a number of personal challenges over the years. Over the past two years Lennon has become an integral member of the Dalmeny Kirk café team and has undertaken a wide range of tasks, preparing food, serving and chatting to the cafe visitors and also helping to keep the church gardens neat and tidy. He is a very well-respected young man much loved by all the Kirk Café team and regular patrons.   The photo shows Lennon receiving his award from Sheana Ainsworth and he is seen wearing the Presidents chain as he was made the club’s “Honorary President” for the night.

Finally a number of awards were made to Rotary members themselves. Matt Purdie was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship. David Buchanan received a certificate to recognise his dedication to the club and wider Kirkliston Community over many years.  Eric Proven received the John Rennie Trophy for all his work and dedication to the club over many years in particular as Club Secretary whilst Brian Johnson a relatively new member was awarded the Jim and Aileen Boyd trophy for his great work supporting the Rotary Environmental team projects and just about every other event the club runs.
