Our International convenor Helen Tulloch delivered a most informative talk about our Lend with Care initiative . Lend with Care was established 10 years ago under the auspices of the Care International organisation. The objective of the scheme is to provide “soft” loans and business advice to needy entrepreneurs both individuals and groups across the globe to help them start or expand their small businesses.
All the funds granted have to be paid back over time and the repayment record is fantastic with virtually no defaults. The scheme has provided support to a wide range of businesses across the world including retail , farming and clothing manufacturing. As well as generating profits to help sustain the living costs of the entrepreneurs the scheme raises the self esteem of the predominately female clientele and also reduces instances of abuse.
Our club’s initial investment of circa £1000 has been rolled over 9 times to date and therefor has provided a cumulative funding “pot” of circa £9000.
Helen has plans to engage with a local primary school to “showcase “the Lend with Care scheme and allow them choose a needy business to invest in from some of the club’s “pot” . Then the pupils can track the business to see how the funding has made a real difference .
