Rotary Clubs across the south of Scotland have co-ordinated their efforts to secure a substantial grant from The Rotary Foundation. This will provide Amazon Fire Tablets to aid those with dementia and their carers and reduce isolation, particularly during the current Covid pandemic. The tablets are equipped with apps recommended by dementia specialists. They include reminiscence archives and sites where people with dementia and their carers can explore familiar objects from the past. To help combat isolation, the tablets can also take video calls via WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger and Skype, offering another means to make much-needed contact with loved ones at a time when we all need our families close by. Rotary has worked in partnership with Dixon's Carphone who are delighted to support The Rotary Foundation and the clubs of District 1020 by sourcing and installing vital tech for the project.
The Rotary Foundation is 'Rotary's own charity' and is supported by contributions from Rotary Clubs, Rotary members and members of the public.
On 12th January, President Irene Brownless of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry presented five Amazon Fire Tablets for use in the Queensferry area. She was joined by William Wood, who cares for a family member with dementia, and Rosie Moorhead of Capital Carers (formerly North West Carers) who support carers and the cared for in the district.
