On Thursday 6th August, members of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry enjoyed a virtual meeting featuring a video presentation by Allan Maclaughlan, Rotary Foundation Team Leader for District 1020. Foundation is Rotary's own charity. It raises money from clubs world-wide to fund international humanitarian initiatives. Such vital projects are particularly challenging in the current pandemic. In his overview of Foundation activities, Allan dedicated a page to the South Queensferry Club which, in Rotary year 2019-20, donated $4,786.06 to Rotary Foundation. The club also donated $2,724.71 to End Polio Now - the drive to eradicate polio which is funded jointly by Rotary, the World Health Organisation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Allan thanked the club for its efforts on behalf of Rotary Foundation. This Rotary year, which began in July, the club currently stands in third place for donations to Foundation in District 1020.
In other business, President Irene Brownless announced that there would be a Litter Blitz starting at the Hawes Pier on Monday 10th August. The QCCC (Queensferry Churches Care in the Community) Golf Day will take place on Monday 21st September at Dundas Parks Golf Club. Appropriate coronavirus distancing regulations will apply.
