On Thursday 2nd July, the Rotary Club of South Queensferry held a Zoom meeting to mark the end of Jim McCulloch's year as president and install Irene Brownless as president for Rotary Year 2020-21. President Jim welcomed the thirty-two members, partners and friends who joined the meeting. He announced that long-standing member Gordon Wood had been elected an Honorary Member and Hon Member Gordon McInally, speaking from Yethom, shared memories of Gordon's Rotary life and reminded members of his good work outwith Rotary as Chair of Friends of Ferry Glen and VOCAL - a charity that supports unpaid carers. Gordon thanked the club for this huge compliment.
President Jim said that although the club was holding Zoom meetings during the current crisis, great things had been achieved during the eight months of normal operation. He mentioned the Santa's Sleigh, Burns Supper, Barbecue and many very interesting speakers, including transatlantic link-ups during our virtual phase. President Jim thanked Norman Watson for hosting all the Zoom meetings, Gerald Smith for all the photographs, Club Council and club members for their support.
Jim presented the John Rennie Trophy for outstanding service to the club to Gerald Smith. The Jim and Aileen Boyd paperweight went to Vikki Renwick. Jim then handed the meeting over to President Irene Brownless who was already wearing the presidential chain.
President Irene thanked him and noted that this year was unique and thanked Immediate Past President Jim for how he had coped with an unprecedented situation and in the process become a video superstar. She welcomed her team of Vice President Derek Clark, Secretary Liz Mackenzie and Treasurer Eric Proven. There followed a presentation of Jim's Rotary Year in pictures by Gerald Smith. The second part will follow next week. She congratulated Gordon McInally on his appointment to Rotary Council on Resolutions and Council on Legislation. A presentation on Rotary after Covid by Gordon can be seen on the Rotary YouTube Channel. Irene thanked all those who had sent congratulations by post or email and her friends Sheena and Liz who had joined the meeting. The evening ended with a raffle which, most appropriately, was won by Jim McCulloch.
