Lighting up Newtown in Purple for World Polio Day

Buildings and businesses lit up to highlight World Polio Day
Newtown Rotary Club hope you have noticed that St Mary’s Church and Newtown businesses have been lit up in purple. This was to raise awareness of World Polio Day on 24 October and the fight to rid the world of polio, a paralysing and potentially deadly disease. The Club has been involved in this campaign for many years and Rotarian Alan Davies said, “The people of Newtown have always been so supportive of the fight against this terrible disease which not so long ago affected children here. Years of vaccination have had a great effect so that polio is now only endemic in 2 countries in the world. Unfortunately, if we don’t completely eradicate polio it could return to affect every country once again.”
