End Polio Now 1240 Challenge
With Polio around the world almost eradicated, District set a challenge to all the clubs in 1175 to undertake a sponsored walk with a total goal of 1240 miles being the length of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
It was decided not to be too ambitious so a route from the sea front, along Cockington Valley, round the lakes and the church and back again was chosen. by members of the club, it was a distance of just over two miles with six people walking contributed 12 miles to the total.
The team of intrepid hikers comprising of Peter Bosley, Peter and Shirin Burcher, Indra Oakley and Janet and David Pratley all met up successfully and enjoyed a leisurely stroll around one of the most picturesque areas of Torbay.
Coincidently ( honest !! ) It was so timed that we passed the Drum Inn at 12.00, so just to be sociable we popped in and had a light lunch and a drink before walking back to the start.
Thank you to the walkers who took part and also a big thank you to all the non walkers who contributed so generously which enabled us to send £200 towards ending polio.
